May 11, 2021

Equiteq is pleased to announce that it has advised Pythagoras Communications, a leading UK technology company and Microsoft Gold Partner, on its sale to EY’s technology consulting business.

Background on Pythagoras Communications

Pythagoras Communications was founded in 1999 and has grown to become one of the leading technology consultancies, specialising in providing professional services and solutions using technology platforms including Microsoft Azure, Dynamics 365, SharePoint and the Power Platform.

Having three offices based in Maidenhead, Solihull and London, they join EY as EY Pythagoras, with 118 employees and more than 140 clients.

The acquisition supports the EY ambition to increase the range of technology services the organisation provides to clients, bringing additional capabilities across various Microsoft Business Applications, such as Dynamics 365, Power Platform and Azure. These technologies help clients to operate more efficiently and provide better customer experiences.

Julian Stone, CEO and Founder of Pythagoras said:

“This is an exciting time for Pythagoras as we build on our achievements over the last 22 years. Our aim has always been to focus on providing high-standard technology services to our clients. Together EY and Pythagoras teams can offer clients a quality and trusted Microsoft Partner. The EY acquisition brings two great organisations together. We are all excited about joining forces with EY teams to provide a very compelling offering in a market that demands increased innovation in providing technology services.”

Regarding Equiteq’s role in the transaction, Julian Stone, CEO and Pythagoras Founder said: “Equiteq were a fantastic partner for Pythagoras. We selected them based on their deep knowledge of the UK Microsoft marketplace and their ability to locate and hence negotiate the correct deal for the shareholders. Equiteq with Jerome and his team understood our expectations and led us through the process with determination understanding, and a strong team work ethic through the various challenges that got us to an excellent transaction outcome.”

Jerome Glynn-Smith, Managing Director at Equiteq said: “We are delighted to have advised Julian and Emma Stone alongside Vin Murria OBE on the sale of Pythagoras to EY. It is clear that there is strong appetite in the market to acquire businesses that have the capabilities to deliver specialty solutions around Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power Platform and Azure. We expect to see further interest from investors in this fast-growth segment, as well as further consolidation as international players seek to secure the capabilities required to meet high levels of demand.”
